Situated across two levels, our café interior is designed with a nod to New York. Our street level café leads on to the popular Nethergate area and Dundee Waterfront where the recently opened V&A Museum of Design proudly sits as the jewel in the crown of the waterfront development.

If our street level café looks full, then head to the back and down the stairs where you will find our trendy basement lounge designed to look like the New York subway. Alternatively, you can enjoy your coffee alfresco within our outdoor seating area located at the front of the café.

Our café is fully accessible, with step free access. We have a team of friendly staff who are always happy to help with any queries, so you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy. Whilst you’re at it, take advantage of our free Wi-Fi service.

St Andrews

Situated in the heart of St Andrews, Empire State Rocca brings together great coffee, relaxed dining and a welcoming atmosphere inspired by the energy of New York café culture. Our street level café sits on Bell Street, just moments from the historic university, boutique shops and the beautiful West Sands, making it the perfect place to pause while exploring the town. If our main café looks busy, step inside and find a comfortable space to settle in and enjoy the surroundings. Whether you're catching up with friends, meeting colleagues or simply taking a break from the day, Empire State Rocca offers a warm and stylish setting where you can unwind.

Alternatively, enjoy your coffee alfresco in our outdoor seating area on Bell Street, where you can watch the town pass by while soaking up the unique atmosphere of St Andrews.


About Us

We are an independent artisan café and coffee roasters situated in the heart of down-town Dundee.

From our New York Inspired café, we skilfully roast, brew and sell our gourmet coffee alongside a lovely selection of locally sourced cakes, sandwiches and award-winning loose-leaf teas.

As a family, we are passionate about coffee. We spent two years curating the finest, ethically sourced coffee beans from all around the world to develop into our very own blend of coffee.

We are proud to be supporting the fair-trade communities that our coffee derives from. We believe that great coffee isn’t just about the taste, it’s about the heart and passion behind it.

FOOD at EMPIRE COFFE

At Empire State Coffee Dundee, the food offering is built around fresh, café-style favourites designed to complement their artisan roasted coffee. Guests can enjoy a selection of freshly baked pastries, sourdough croissants, muffins, cakes and sweet treats, alongside light lunch options such as bagels, sandwiches and filled baguettes. The focus is on simple, high-quality ingredients and freshly prepared items that pair perfectly with their house-roasted coffee beans.


At Empire State Rocca in St Andrews, the menu follows a similar café concept with a slightly Mediterranean influence. The food includes breakfast dishes, soups, and a variety of focaccia, bagels, ciabattas and toasted sandwiches filled with ingredients such as mozzarella, pesto, salmon, pastrami and fresh vegetables. Sweet treats and confectionery complete the menu, making it ideal for everything from a quick coffee stop to a relaxed brunch or light lunch.


Together, both locations focus on fresh, flavourful café food that complements their specialty coffee, whether you're stopping in for a morning pastry, a hearty sandwich, or something sweet alongside your espresso.

Our Coffee

Our coffee is ethically sourced from 2 continents and over 4 countries largely because where our coffee is grown greatly affects its taste. 

Although there can be a wide variety of flavours of coffee bean within each country, there are general flavour trends for each continent. For our coffee the general flavour trends apply.

Asia: Full bodies and low acidity

Central America: balance of body and acidity

South America: More body with a touch of acidity

Our organic coffee is sustainably sourced through our Fairtrade partners ensuring that a fair price is paid, and good working conditions are maintained for our coffee producers. As coffee is a global business, we are committed to ensuring that every cup of coffee we sell helps make our world a better place.
